
Entry and exit of corpses or human remains
According to Law 26698 – Law of Burial Sites and Funeral Services, the entry to the country and international transport of corpses or human remains should be made prior authorization from the health authority upon request from relatives or by judiciary mandate.
Also as established in the Supreme Decree N° 03-94-SA - Regulations of the Law of Burial Sites and Funeral Services, corpses and human remains should be embalmed, deposited in completely sealed coffins and located in a separated compartment from passengers in order to be transferred to another country. To transfer corpses or human remains from abroad to Peru, a death certificate and a sanitary authorization, both endorsed by the corresponding Peruvian consulate, are required.
A vessel captain or vehicle driver is responsible for compliance with the abovementioned requirements.
